The Gumball race is non-accessible for people with an average income. Only rich people are able to participate in this race.
Nonetheless, the Gumball concept appeals to a wide public of all incomes.
This appreciation led to the organisation of a Gumball-look-a-like race which was named: Scumball 500.
The idea behind the Scumball-race is similar to the Gumball-race, but as you can see, there is a difference between the two races, especially concerning the cars.
There are different organizations who organize the so called Scumball race. In the French Scumball race, the vehicles can not cost more than £ 500, which is about 730 euros. It is a four-day rally around France.
Even the United Kingdom has its own scumball organization, but the race is not held in England, but in Germany, on the famous Nürburgring.
For the real Gumball-fan who can not afford to participate in Gumball, this is an agreeable, affordable substitute.
The teams can participate in 2 categories, namely "Best Theme" and "Quickest round":
The "Best Theme" category will be won by the team with the most imagination, and the strangest, wackiest vehicle. This award can be compared with the Gumball Style Award.
The "Quickest Round" category speaks for itself. This does not however mean that the Scumball-staff encourages breaking speed limits. On the contrary, choosing the best route and good map reading are encouraged.
Of course the participants have to prove that their car does not exceed £ 500 limit, by providing receipts of purchase. If the price of the vehicle exceeds the 500-pound-limit by more than 20 %, the team will not be allowed to join the Scumball-race.
The Scumball 500 is of course a very underground concept, exactly like the beginning of the Gumball-race. Of course, Scumball will never outpower the original race, which is much more excentric and extravagant.
